Eating Less on a GLP-1 but Not Losing Weight?

Did You Know?
GLP-1 medications often help people eat less, but eating less doesn’t always mean the scale changes right away. That can feel confusing, especially when you’re doing your best. GLP-1s aren’t instant, and they aren’t one-size-fits-all.
What’s Going On?
GLP-1 medications change hunger and fullness. But weight change depends on more than appetite. Here are a few common reasons the scale may not move yet:
Your body may be adjusting. When you eat much less, your body may try to save energy at first.
The scale doesn’t tell the whole story. Your body may be holding onto food and water longer early on, which can slow scale changes.
Muscle matters. If you’re not eating enough protein or moving your body, weight loss can come from muscle, not just fat.
Daily habits matter. Poor sleep, high stress, and routines can affect weight — even with medication.
None of this means the medication isn’t working or that you’re doing something wrong.
What Can You Do?
Simple habits that support progress:
Eat regular meals, even if they’re smaller
Include protein when you eat
Drink fluids throughout the day
Notice changes beyond the scale (energy, clothes fitting, fewer cravings).
